Meet a Fundraiser
In April this year, Scott Bartley will be riding the North Island leg of the Tour of NZ, as part of the joint Honda/Child Cancer Foundation team.
"We gave been involved with Child Cancer Foundation since 2010 when our daughter, Ella, was found to have a large brain tumour growing in her head. She was just two years old at the time. After being sick with what we thought was a tummy ache, we were referred to the hospital for some scans. Hours later, the doctors told us Ella had a tumour growing in her head that was the size of a tennis ball and needed emergency surgery to save her life".
Thankfully, almost all of the tumour was removed with little damage to Ella's brain.
"I love cycling. Riding my bike has been therapeutic for me, both physically and mentally, over the past seven years. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to take part in the Tour of New Zealand and support Child Cancer Foundation"Scott Bartley, Supporter
Ella is now nine years old and has exceeded all expectations – she has a MRI scan every 12 months to monitor the tumour, and so far she has managed to avoid any further surgeries.
"We're all hoping it stays that way. That's why I want to help an organisation that was there for us when we needed support".
