PROGRAMMES - HOW WE CAN HELP

The Child Cancer Foundation helps in many ways to reduce the suffering and stress of children and their families during their journey with cancer, such as:

Family Support

• Introductory kits for newly diagnosed families
• One on one practical assistance and emotional support tailored to the needs of individual families
• Financial assistance, including assistance with travel, food expenses and meal vouchers
• Assistance with accommodation close to treatment centres
• Support for bereaved families
• Parent support groups
• Peer support for teenagers through referrals to CanTeen

Education

• Funds to enable children to attend recreational and educational programmes
• Educational days for siblings
• School re-entry books and resources
• Scholarship programme to assist children with cancer and their siblings/parents to access educational opportunities and resources

Advocacy

• Advocacy for children with cancer and their families, both on an individual basis, and as a whole, to ensure that the special needs of children with cancer and their families are addressed

Research & Health Professionals

• Funding national research programmes on childhood cancer
• Subsidising specialist education for health professionals
• Working with health professionals to address issues related to the late effects of cancer treatment

Other Programmes

• Providing access to holiday homes in conjunction with the Professionals Real Estate Group
• Providing major funding as a partner in the Ronald McDonald Houses in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch
