Hair-razing bravery during funrazor!
More than 800 brave, committed and generous New Zealanders shaved their lid for a kid and helped the Child Cancer Foundation gain a Guinness World Record and more than $300,000!
At 5pm, Thursday 7 December, funrazor went National with head shaves taking place in businesses, schools and 13 official public venues throughout the country.
And the funrazor stories of commitment, bravery and generosity of New Zealanders are now being shared.
There have been fantastic funrazor success stories from all over New Zealand.
With a population of around 500, small town Kirwee entered the funrazor spirit with more than 100 townspeople shaving their heads in support of a local family battling childhood cancer.
There are the stories of bravery – including Jubilee Rajiah who lost her luscious, long black locks but raised $10,000 for her effort and young Liam Van der Werff of the North Shore who raised $2000 shaving off his hair in memory of his little sister Lowri.
And finally the stories of commitment from sponsors and shavees. This year Classic Hits provided fantastic support, with radio hosts throughout the country supporting shavees, hosting events and even taking part!
The 2006 funrazor saw high profile New Zealanders lose their locks for kids with cancer. Auckland mayor Dick Hubbard and Waitakere mayor Bob Harvey participated in Auckland and captain of the New Zealand Warriors, Steve Price, and 12 team mates raised more than $20,000.
The Child Cancer Foundation wishes to thank everyone who supported funrazor. Thanks to our shavee’s, their supporters, our sponsors, and our volunteers.
