Brave five-year-old Shauna

"Hi my name is Shauna and I've got cancer."

Shauna, a bright and happy five-year-old is very proud of the three Beads of Courage she has received for losing her hair.

Life changed for Shauna and her family during a family holiday in Europe in mid 2010 when Shauna developed a tan but remained pale on her face.  A blood test on their return diagnosed Shauna with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Following her diagnosis Shauna started treatment.  During one of her transfusions she contracted a bug that went through her little body.  For Shauna's mum it was horrific watching her happy five-year-old skip into clinic and then in just 30 minutes to see her health decline so rapidly.  Shauna has now collected 165 Beads of Courage for every treatment and procedure she has endured and says her large lumpy rainbow bead, for conquering all of her medicine challenges, is her favourite.
