The Child Cancer Foundation would like to sincerely thank Maurice and Trish Short, co-organisers of the extraordinarily successful 2010 Tractor Trek.

The couple were two of the key driving forces behind a 50 tractor odyssey from Bluff to Picton and back in February/March, a journey which raised an incredible $140,000 for the Foundation.

The 22 day, 2,500km journey began on Monday, February 22nd, after two years of preparation and planning.

Each participant secured sponsorship before setting out and met their own expenses.  Donations were picked up from the generous South Island communities as they passed through.  Each tractor was a self contained unit and the group stayed in Doc camp sites, school grounds and vintage club grounds, creating an eye-catching and unusual scene each evening as friendships were forged or renewed.

The oldest tractor on the tour was built in 1937 and many of the models were from the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The itinerary included as many back-country roads as possible to avoid holding up other traffic and took in some picture-book South Island scenery.

Thank you once again to all those intrepid trekkers who took part on this amazing journey as well as to all those who supported and donated along the way.  The Child Cancer Foundation is enormously grateful for your support.

An unusual sight as the tractors weave their way up a quiet country road.
